Human After All?
Depends which page you’re on.
We’ve let 30 comics creators loose in Daft Punk’s universe.
The machines dream. The humans malfunction. There’s electronic romance in the circuitry and body horror beneath the chrome. And we’ve even dug out two rock-fueled classics by Mœbius and Philippe Druillet to synthesize and alchemize the past and future into this present.
Each new short comic seizes a fragment of time in the duo’s narrative—sometimes directly, sometimes through metaphor—all punctuated by a slew of articles unpacking the lore, technology, and revolution of Daft Punk from those who know best.
Contributors include Laura Pérez, Malachi Ward, Matthew Sheean, Édouard Cour, Jonathan Djob Nkondo and Zep. The exclusive cover is by Cedric Hervet and Warren Fu, the duo behind the cover art and illustrations for Random Access Memories.

The Scream Was First Heard in Paris in 1975
A 50-Year Legacy
In Paris in 1975, Moebius, together with fellow rebellious bande dessinée creators Jean-Pierre Dionnet and Philippe Druillet, set out to push the boundaries of comics with mature, cerebral, provocative stories driven by a punk spirit. Metal Hurlant was their brainchild: a cutting-edge anthology published by their newly founded house, Les Humanoïdes Associés (Humanoids).
Metal Hurlant took science fiction by storm, inspiring generations of artists and crossing borders, media, and genres. Fifty years later, it is more alive than ever. In 2025, it launched its first full-scale English-language edition, continuing its founding mission: to bring together visionary creators and publish bold, genre-defying comics for a new generation of readers.
A Step Inside
Praise for Metal
"If you’ve experienced any cutting edge science fiction/fantasy of the last 50 years, from Alien and Blade Runner to Love, Death and Robots, you probably know Metal Hurlant, the legendary illustrated magazine that came roaring out of France in the mid-70s, even if you’ve never heard its name.”—
"I am a child of Metal Hurlant.
"More than just a publication, Métal Hurlant was the vanguard of a larger movement in 1970s France, one that sought to redefine science fiction as a medium for radical storytelling and artistic experimentation.”
"My concept of Blade Runner linked up to a comic script I’d seen Mœbius do a long time ago; it was called ‘The Long Tomorrow.’
"They wanted to depict the psychedelic, the grotesque, erotic, and apocalyptic. They wanted to sketch the future.

Questions before you order
What is Metal Hurlant?
Metal Hurlant is the legendary French science fiction anthology that inspired generations of creators and helped shape modern sci-fi across comics, film, and animation. The new English-language edition combines all-new stories with iconic archival material in a premium quarterly anthology.
Why is this a special issue rather than a regular issue of the anthology?
If you are a Metal Hurlant subscriber, are you a Daft Punk aficionado? Maybe not. But even if you’re not, you may be interested in seeing what our creators and journalists have put together around this musical phenomenon. Or not.
I'm new to Metal Hurlant. Is this a good place to start?
Absolutely. Every issue, including this special issue, is designed as a self-contained anthology featuring complete stories, making it easy for new readers to jump in without prior knowledge.
Can I buy the special issue without subscribing?
Yes. Choose one of the two softcover editions or the hardcover edition as a separate purchase. A subscription is not required.
What's the difference between the editions?
All three editions contain the exact same editorial content. The Standard Softcover and the Exclusive Softcover differ only by their cover. The Exclusive Hardcover features premium binding and collector-quality presentation, while the softcover editions offer the same stories in a lighter, more affordable format.
Will the issue be available after the campaign?
The Standard Softcover is scheduled to reach bookstores in February 2027 at $39.99. The Exclusive Softcover and the Exclusive Hardcover editions will remain available on the Humanoids store at a higher price. They will not be sold in bookstores. The Exclusive Four-poster Set is available only during the preorder campaign.
Can I buy the posters without the issue?
Yes. The four-poster set is $49.99 and can be purchased separately during the preorder campaign.
How do I qualify for the free posters?
Purchase the special issue while you have an existing softcover or hardcover anthology subscription, or purchase a new print subscription and the special issue together. Digital subscriptions and subscription-only purchases do not qualify.
Does the portrait offer include the issue?
No. The $249.99 purchase is for your portrait slot in the illustration. Purchase the special issue separately to receive a copy.
When will the issue ship?
All three preorder editions are scheduled to ship in mid-January 2027. You'll receive an email notification as soon as your order ships.
Where do you ship?
Worldwide. U.S. shipping is free for the special issue and posters, ordered separately or together. Shipping charges apply outside the United States and are calculated at checkout based on your destination and selected shipping method. Regular anthology subscriptions have their own shipping terms.
Will I receive tracking?
Tracking depends on the shipping option you select and your destination. Where available, tracking information will be emailed once your order has shipped.
How does the Metal Hurlant subscription work?
Metal Hurlant is published quarterly, with four issues released each year. Choose the subscription that best fits your reading habits, whether quarterly or multi-year, and enjoy every new issue as it's released.
Can I cancel or change my subscription?
If you need help with your subscription, shipping address, or account, simply contact our customer support team and we'll be happy to assist.
